Welcome to the Somerset RFU Safeguarding page.

Each club with a mini/junior/youth section (any player who is below the age of 18) must have a Club Safeguarding Officer CSO).  The CSO, together with any assistants will coordinate DBS applications for all coaches and volunteers and implement a Club Safeguarding policy.

Further information is available in The Governance section of the England Rugby website, which has an abundance of information including:

  • Safer Recruitment
  • DBS Procedure
  • Regulations for 2020-2021 including Regulation 15 Age Grade and Regulation 21
  • Safeguarding courses - Including the new online pre-DBS course here

Playing out of age grade

The priority is always for age grade players to play in their defined age/year group, with their peers/friends and where those that support them are most closely connected. Playing out of age grade and combining age grades is the exception. For any player to do so, the circumstances, conditions, assessments and approvals required in regulation must be in place beforehand. The ultimate consideration must be the welfare and safety of all the players involved.
